What is a chronograph?
A chronograph is a timepiece that can be used to measure time increments. They are commonly used in sports and other activities to measure elapsed time. Chronographs can also be used as stopwatches.

Functions of a chronograph
Chronographs have many different functions that can be useful in a variety of situations. One of the most common uses of chronographs is to measure elapsed time.
This can be useful for timing events or determining how long an activity lasts. Chronographs can also be used as stopwatches. This means they can be started and stopped at any time, making them ideal for timing races or other competitions.
In addition, some chronographs have special functions such as a tachymeter. It allows the user to calculate things like speed or distance based on the time it takes them to travel a given distance.
The history of the chronograph
The first chronograph was created in 1821 by the French watchmaker Nicolas Mathieu Rieussec. This original chronograph was a very simple device that showed time in ink on a piece of paper. Rieussec's invention quickly caught on and other watchmakers began developing their own versions of the chronograph.
In 1816, another French watchmaker named Louis Moinet developed the world's first chronograph. This clock used a system of rotating disks to measure the increments of time, and not ink like Rieussec's original design.
Chronographs were constantly being further developed in the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1916, Longines developed the first wrist-worn chronograph. This type of chronograph was much more practical than the pocket watches that were common at the time. Chronographs saw the watches, which looked very different in the beginning, have since changed significantly in their design.
They still serve the same purpose though: they help people keep track of time!
What is the difference between a chronograph and a chronometer?
Chronographs and chronometers are often confused This is probably due to the similarity of the terms. However, a chronograph is a watch with a stopwatch function and the term chronometer is an award for particularly accurate watches. So it is quite possible that a chronograph is also a chronometer at the same time.
What are the differences in chronographs?
There are different types of chronographs. The most common type is the analog chronograph. This type of chronograph has a stopwatch function and usually has three sub-dials that show the minutes, seconds and hours. A chronograph with tachymeter is also common. This type of chronograph can be used to calculate speed or distance.
Is a chronograph an automatic watch?
Not always. There are both automatic chronographs and chronographs with quartz movements. The term chronograph alone does not provide any information about whether it is an automatic watch, a quartz watch or a hand-wound watch. All our chronographs are automatic watches. These are powered by a movement from ETA, more precisely the ETA Valjoux 7751 with moon phase.
